There is so much history in this ring; it makes for an excellent collector's piece! The oval bloodstone plaque is mounted in 9ct old gold which has a rosy hue. Bloodstone (also known as heliotrope) is deep green chalcedony with the red specks being red jasper. The bloodstone measures 11mm x 9mm.
Known today as Prouds (the Jewellers), Prouds was founded by William James Proud and began trading as W.J. Proud in 1903. By 1912, Prouds had become a propriety company and by this time William had been joined by his brothers Edward and George. By the 1920’s Prouds had developed into a substantial retail jewellery firm and was situated on Pitt St, Sydney.
In 1931, William Proud died however the family business remained until 1948, when the public company Prouds Ltd was formed.
The period from 1910 to 1930 is of particular interest as during this time, Prouds as described as manufacturing jewellers and silversmiths. Gold jewellery produced during this era was hallmarked ‘Proud'.
